Activity Description

The Cullinan Diamond Mine is renowned as a source of large, high-quality gem diamonds, including Type II stones, as well as being the world’s most important source of very rare blue diamonds.

Many of the world’s most famous diamonds herald from Cullinan, and it continues to produce world-class diamonds under Petra’s stewardship.

The Cullinan orebody contains a major diamond resource of 195 Mcts, suggesting a potentially long life for the operation of +50 years.
Come and enjoy with us exclusive surface and underground tours of the working Cullinan Diamond Mine.

This mine has produced some of the world’s largest high quality gemstones and is the home of the world’s largest diamond – the Cullinan (3106 ct).

Recently, a number of record braking blue diamonds have been found including a 122.52 carat diamond which achieved a value of US$ 27.6 million in 2014.

Customer Reviews

the tour gave me an impression how Petra Diamonds is working. The tour guide was great and gave her best to answer all questions. As stock investor of PetraDiamonds, i would have expected to go under the earth and see how the process is ongoing. This was for me the sad moment, to not see whats below surface. The video room as well as the entrance office has not made a good impression. Old, used, not proper maintaned, it gives a low impression to customers. I am sure it is not so much money needed to make her something better and more professional. All employees have been really friendly and informativ. I can absolutely recommend it, but need to inform that the house and video room looks absolutely bad - Christoph

Tour was interesting and a great guide with a lot of knowledge. - RJ

Great experience, very interesting site. I recommend it absolutely, the guide was very interesting and dedicated. - Sonia

Like many people the idea of visiting a diamond mine is a bucket list item for some people. We managed this at Cullinan Surface Mine in South Africa. Well worth the time out, the town is a beautiful small mining town with ample to see. The Cullinan Surface Mine Tour was an wonderful opportunity to understand the hard work that goes into these stones and what they look like out of the ground. The tour took us around the mine showing the buildings an there jobs, culminating in a visit to a ginormous hole in the ground that was the original open cast mine. Recommend if anyone in the area to visit. We loved it. - Kelvin

A fantastic tour It was really informative and the guide was good fun, professional and very interesting. A rare opportunity to see the mine up close- but also learn the history and background to diamonds in general- just a pity you can't go down under! - David
